Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak
Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak is classic comfort food made easy. Tender seasoned beef patties simmer slowly in a rich brown gravy with onions and mushrooms until perfectly juicy and full of flavor. The slow cooker makes the meat extra tender while developing deep, savory flavor in the sauce.
It’s hearty, satisfying, and perfect served over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
Ingredients
For the Patties
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 small onion, finely minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For the Gravy
1 small onion, sliced
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 packet brown gravy mix
1 packet onion soup mix
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
2 tablespoons cold water (if thickening)
Instructions
Make the Beef Patties
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, minced onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
Mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
Shape into 4–6 oval patties.
Brown the Patties (Recommended)
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat.
Brown patties for 2–3 minutes per side until a crust forms. They do not need to be fully cooked. This step adds flavor but can be skipped if needed.
Prepare the Slow Cooker
Place sliced onions and mushrooms in the bottom of the slow cooker.
Lay browned patties on top.
In a bowl, whisk together brown gravy mix, onion soup mix, beef broth, and ketchup.
Pour the gravy mixture over the patties.
Cook
Cover and cook:
• On LOW for 6–7 hours
• On HIGH for 3–4 hours
The patties should be tender and fully cooked.
Thicken the Gravy (Optional)
If you prefer thicker gravy, mix cornstarch and cold water. Stir into the slow cooker during the last 20–30 minutes of cooking and allow to thicken.
Serving Suggestions
Serve hot over mashed potatoes, buttered egg noodles, or white rice. Spoon plenty of gravy over the top.
Add a side of green beans, peas, or roasted carrots for a complete meal.
Storage
Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
Freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight before reheating.
Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak is rich, hearty, and deeply comforting — a timeless family dinner made even easier with slow cooking.
