Slow-Roasted Sticky Beef Short Ribs
If you’re craving something rich, tender, and full of deep flavor, slow-roasted beef short ribs are hard to beat. Cooked low and slow, they become incredibly soft, almost falling off the bone, and coated in a sticky, glossy sauce that’s both sweet and savory.
Ingredients
- 1.5 kg beef short ribs
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For the sauce
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/3 cup brown sugar or honey
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon ginger (grated)
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 cup beef broth or water
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F).
Season the ribs with salt and pepper. Heat oil in a pan and sear the ribs on all sides until browned. This step adds a deep, rich flavor.
In a bowl, mix soy sauce, sugar (or honey), garlic, ginger, ketchup, vinegar, and broth.
Place the ribs in a baking dish and pour the sauce over them.
Cover tightly with foil and roast for about 2.5 to 3 hours, until the meat is very tender.
Remove the foil, spoon the sauce over the ribs, and return to the oven uncovered for 20–30 minutes. This helps the sauce thicken and become sticky and glossy.
Texture & Flavor
The ribs come out incredibly tender, juicy, and coated in a rich, sticky glaze. The balance of sweet, salty, and slightly tangy flavors makes every bite satisfying.
Tips
- Cook low and slow—this is key for tender meat
- Baste the ribs during the final stage for extra flavor
- Let the meat rest a few minutes before serving
- Add chili flakes if you like a bit of heat
Serving Ideas
Serve with rice, mashed potatoes, or roasted vegetables. Spoon extra sauce over everything—it’s too good to waste.
This dish is perfect for weekends or special meals when you want something comforting, impressive, and full of flavor
