It’s easy to prepare, yet feels special enough for a family dinner or casual entertaining.
Ingredients:
4 bone-in or boneless pork chops
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 small onion, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup chicken broth
1 cup shredded Alpine-style cheese such as Swiss, Gruyère, or Emmental
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Optional garnish: fresh parsley
Instructions:
Season the pork chops on both sides with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the pork chops and sear for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
Reduce the heat to medium and add the butter to the same skillet. Add the sliced onion and cook for 4 to 5 minutes until soft and lightly caramelized.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Stir in the heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and dried thyme. Bring to a gentle simmer.
Lower the heat and add the shredded cheese, stirring until melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy.
Return the pork chops to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them. Cover and simmer for 8 to 12 minutes, or until the pork is cooked through and tender.
Remove from heat and let rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve with mashed potatoes, buttered noodles, or rice to soak up the creamy sauce.
Pair with roasted vegetables, green beans, or a simple side salad.
Tips for Best Results:
Use freshly shredded cheese for smoother melting.
Do not boil the sauce once the cheese is added.
Bone-in pork chops stay especially juicy, but boneless work well too.
Creamy, savory, and deeply comforting, these Alpine cheese delight pork chops are a warm, satisfying meal that feels like classic comfort food with a touch of rustic elegance.
