Bacon Wrapped Smokies

Bacon Wrapped Smokies

Ingredients:
1 pound cocktail sausages (smokies)
1 pound bacon, cut into thirds
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
1 teaspoon black pepper
Optional: 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper for extra heat

Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top if you have one. This helps the bacon cook evenly.

Wrap each smokie with a piece of bacon and secure with a toothpick if needed. Arrange them seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.

In a shallow bowl, mix the brown sugar, chili powder, black pepper, and cayenne if using. Roll each bacon-wrapped smokie in the sugar mixture, coating evenly.

Place the coated smokies back onto the baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the sugar is melted and caramelized. For extra crispiness, you can turn them once halfway through baking.

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. The sugar will be very hot when they first come out.

Serving Suggestions:
Serve these as an appetizer or party snack. They pair well with toothpicks and can be enjoyed on their own or with dipping sauces like honey mustard, barbecue sauce, or spicy mustard.

Tips for Best Results:
Use thick-cut bacon for chewier bites or regular bacon for crispier results.
Line the pan well, as the sugar will caramelize and stick.
These can be made ahead and reheated in the oven for a few minutes before serving.

Bacon wrapped smokies are sweet, salty, smoky, and irresistibly addictive, making them a guaranteed hit at parties, holidays, and game-day gatherings.
