Homemade Donut Holes

INGREDIENTS:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon of baking powder

1/2 teaspoon of salt

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

1 cup of milk

1 large egg

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Vegetable oil, for frying

Additional granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for coating (optional)

 

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

Prepare the dry ingredients:

In a large bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt and ground cinnamon (if using).

Prepare the wet ingredients:

In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter and vanilla extract.

Mix the ingredients:

Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients.

Stir until everything is well combined. The dough should be thick but not too firm.

Heat the oil:

In a saucepan or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

Fry the donut holes:

Using a small cookie scoop or spoon, carefully drop spoonfuls of dough into the hot oil.

Fry the dough balls in batches, taking care not to overcrowd the pot.

Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden and cooked through, turning occasionally for even cooking.

Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on absorbent paper.

Coat the donut holes:

If desired, roll the hot donut holes in a mixture of granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
