INGREDIENTS:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
1/2 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
Zest of 1 orange
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
DIRECTIONS:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, salt, and yeast. Mix well.
Add the warm milk, melted butter, egg, and orange zest to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle, about 12×18 inches.
Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 equal pieces.
Place the pieces cut-side up in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and orange juice to make a glaze. Drizzle over the warm buns before serving.
